What causes type 1 diabetes? Type 1 diabetes is considered to be an autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to target cells in your pancreas that produce insulin. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown, but it is not caused by lifestyle choices. There may be some link between genetic and environmental factors and the development of type 1 diabetes.

Symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes: In addition to the main symptoms of diabetes, people living with type 1 diabetes can also experience symptoms such as weight loss or a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis. This is serious condition that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones because there is not enough insulin production.

Type 1 Diabetes Treatment

Unfortunately, people with type 1 diabetes have permanent damage to their pancreas and are required to take insulin in order to live.

Type 1 diabetes treatment includes a constant monitoring of glucose levels and regularly taking insulin through injection or an insulin pump. Insulin comes in a number of different forms with different times of onset, peak, and duration.

Currently, there is no cure for type 1 diabetes, so lifelong treatment and management will be required. With careful monitoring and adherence to insulin treatment, you can possibly avoid more serious complications in the future.

Medication may be required to treat issues with cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other complications that arise.
