Most people think of a psychologist when speaking about mental health professionals. Psychologists often work with others in the field, like psychiatrists, to provide support and guidance to patients. Unlike a psychiatrist, a psychologist does not prescribe medicine. Psychologist: Different Types of Non-Medicinal Therapy

A clinical psychologist can treat you through different psychology services, such as:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Biofeedback.
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • Counseling psychology.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
  • Hypnotherapy.
  • Play therapy.

However, these mental health professionals cannot prescribe medications. They also cannot perform physical medical examinations or order laboratory tests.

Psychologists need to earn a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology following their bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or social work. They can focus on a specific concentration, like child, marriage, or family therapy.

To practice psychology therapy, they will need to complete an internship to obtain experience in their field. They will also need to pass a national examination to get their license from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. A session with a psychologist can cost between $70 and $150.

An online psychologist may charge less since they have fewer overhead charges, such as office rent, utilities, and administration.
